What is a paint stripper?
Paint strippers are products used to easily and quickly remove layers of paint, varnish or coating from a substrate. This is because the active substances in paint strippers break the chemical bonds in the paint layers. After applying a paint stripper to the surface to be treated, the old paint can be easily removed after some soaking time. So we are talking about chemical paint strippers that drastically reduce the mechanical effort needed to remove paint from various surfaces.
Mavro International’s paint strippers have a high viscosity, meaning they have a gel-like structure. More than useful when you want to treat vertical surfaces. They don’t drip, which makes application easier and allows the paint stripper to penetrate well.

How do you remove old layers of paint?
Several factors play a role here: the thickness of the old paint, the number of paint layers, the surface it was applied to, the age of the layer to be removed and its stubbornness. Therefore, read our product sheets carefully and always make a test sample beforehand.
Removing old paint, varnish or coating layers should always be done carefully. After all, you don’t want to damage the substrate.
And it’s not just the substrate that needs to be worked on carefully; think about safety for yourself and the environment. Therefore, wear suitable gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses. Be sure to collect polluting paint and product residue in an environmentally friendly way with absorption rolls that Mavro international also provides in the online shop.

How to strip paint off wood
When you choose the right wood stripper, it works really well in removing safely and easily one or more layers of (old) paint. Naturally, our paint strippers for wood, like all our other paint strippers, comply with the European directives. No aggressive agents such as methylene chloride are used.
Paint strippers for metal
Besides sanding, industrial blasting and heating, using a chemical paint stripper for metal is also an effective way to remove paint from metal objects. Especially when an object has many nooks and crannies or is difficult to reach.
For metal surfaces, we recommend working with solvent-based paint strippers. This is because basic/alkaline paint strippers can damage the substrate due to their corrosive effect
Paint strippers for walls, masonry and brickwork
Masonry and similar surfaces require a little more effort for removing old paint and its residues. This should therefore be done with more caution so as not to damage both the bricks (or other porous materials) and the joints. Always seek advice from our advisers and test a small area that is not exposed beforehand.
Tip: after cleaning the brickwork with a paint stripper, treat it with a protective coating or impregnate for lasting results.

Particularly vulnerable substrates such as plastics and wood are susceptible to damage. Therefore, it is always important to check what type of substrate you are dealing with. If in doubt, choose the mildest product and put a test piece. Or contact our advisors.
Mavro has a product line of sustainable and biodegradable paint strippers. However, the paint residue that is removed is harmful and is best collected with an absorbent rolls or collection mats. After that, it is important to dispose of the paint residue as chemical waste.
It depends on the type of paint you want to remove, the number of layers of paint and the product you are using. Soak times range from 30 minutes to 24 hours. For extremely long working times, it is recommended that you cover the stripper with plastic film to prevent drying out.
