Why clean a facade?
Facade cleaning has many advantages. In addition to preventing damage – such as moisture damage, for example – it improves the appearance of the facade. Facade cleaning also extends the life of the facade and can increase the value of the property in terms of value.
Types of soiling
There are many types of soiling that can affect the facade such as green deposits, algae, mold, etc. But also white deposits such as limescale and salt efflorescence.
Methods of facade cleaning
Facade cleaning can be done by high-pressure cleaning, chemical cleaning (with chemical cleaner) and by sandblasting. Which method is best depends on the type of substrate and the stubbornness of the dirt.
Facade cleaning through steam cleaning
Steam cleaning is mainly used for light soiling on the facade such as moss. In steam cleaning, the water is heated to 150 degrees. When the water is at temperature, a high-pressure sprayer is used to remove the dirt from the facade. This method cannot be used in every situation such as when the dirt is too stubborn. Chemical cleaning or sandblasting is used.
Facade cleaning through chemical cleaning
When dirt is too stubborn to be removed by steam cleaning, chemical cleaning can be used. This means that a chemical cleaning agent is used in combination with water to remove the dirt from the facade.
Facade cleaning through sandblasting
If steam cleaning or dry cleaning is not sufficient, sandblasting is used to remove the dirt from the facade. In this method, a mild abrasive is added to the water. Often this is sand or fine stones with which the dirt is then sprayed off the surface.
Types of substrates
Facade cleaning can be applied to a variety of substrates. From concrete and masonry to stone types such as slate, brick, limestone and natural stone. For each substrate, of course, it depends on which cleaning method you will use. When using a chemical cleaner, the choice of product is very important so as not to damage the facade.

The cost of facade cleaning depends on factors such as the method of facade cleaning and for example when chemical cleaners are required. Below is a small summary of the average price per m2.

Protecting the facade

By impregnating the facade, you ensure that no more water is absorbed or allowed to pass through the facade.
